Hattiesburg, Mississippi – On Tuesday, Oct. 20, the Hattiesburg Fire Department welcomed six new firefighters from Recruit Class 20-01 into its ranks.
In order to become firefighters, Christopher Anderson, Jared Mott, Tyler Wells, Jonathon Hinton, Jordan Marshall and Brandon Clark spent 12 weeks undergoing rigorous training – physically and academically – at both the Hattiesburg Fire & Police Training Academy and at the Mississippi State Fire Training Academy. Upon graduation, all six were assigned to shifts and stations to begin work immediately.
Awards for a variety of categories were also delivered throughout the evening, including:
- Academic Award – Jordan Marshall
- Most Improved – Jared Mott
- Physical Fitness – Christopher Anderson
- Leadership – Jonathon Hinton
“We are very proud of this class,” said Chris Carr, Batallion Chief and Director of Fire Training. “They’ve worked hard, bonded and overcome a variety of obstacles – individually and collectively – to get to this point. I look forward to watching them begin their careers with the Hattiesburg Fire Department.”
Fire Chief Sherrocko Stewart added, “We have one of the best departments in the state, and it stands on the shoulders of the talent and heart that is fostered within our employees. These six men are a great addition and they will all do great things to add to the legacy of the Hattiesburg Fire Department.”
