School District Receives $102K in Grant Funding

Hattiesburg, Mississippi – Recently, Mayor Toby Barker was joined by Hattiesburg Public School District Superintendent Robert Williams and Representatives Missy McGee and Percy Watson to announce funding for Woodley Elementary through the Mississippi Department of Archives and History’s historic preservation grant for $102,000.

This grant will be used to waterproof the exterior of the original building, install LED lighting and update mechanical systems.

These grants are very competitive, and Woodley is one of 17 grants that were issued throughout the State of Mississippi.

“While the residents of the school district approved a bond renewal that will generate up to $22.5 million over the next 20 years,” said Barker. “It is important to note that there is around $40 million in total need for capital improvements to school facilities. Grants like these mean a lot in the scope of progress and being able to do more for our district and our students.”
