Hattiesburg’s New Year’s Eve Celebration Scheduled to Return

Hattiesburg, Mississippi – Midnight on Front Street, Hattiesburg’s New Year’s Eve Celebration, is slated to return in person this year after hosting a virtual event in 2020.

“Last year, I stood on the firetruck by myself as we filmed the countdown to 2021. It was a sobering and stark reminder of all our community lost in 2020,” said Hattiesburg Mayor Toby Barker. “While 2021 has provided us with additional battles in the fight against COVID-19, the year has also provided so much for us to reflect and be proud about. I look forward to gathering together – once again – with Hattiesburgers and visitors from all over as we toast to the past and ring in the new year.”

The 2021 event is slated to include music, food vendors, the dropping of the iconic Hub Sign at Midnight followed by a fireworks show.

“Having this annual event return to Downtown Hattiesburg is a sign for how far we’ve come as a community throughout the last year,” said Andrea Saffle, director of the Downtown Hattiesburg Association. “It’s going to be an incredible night in the life of our city. And, we look forward to working with vendors and our merchants as we usher in 2022 in a very special way.”

Additional details will be shared through the months of November and December as they are confirmed, but city officials and community leaders encourage all to make plans to experience this New Year’s Eve in Downtown Hattiesburg through Midnight on Front Street. The history of the Hub Sign, schedules and plans will be accessible at hburgnye.com.
