Forrest County Receives $15M to Replace East Hardy Street Bridge

Hattiesburg, Mississippi – On Friday afternoon, Mayor Toby Barker joined the Forrest County Board of Supervisors, Mississippi Department of Transporation (MDOT) Commissioner for the Southern District Tom King, Representative Larry Byrd, Representative Percy Watson, Representative Missy McGee, Representative Chris Johnson and Senator Juan Barnett to acknowledge the recent allocation of $15 million to replace the East Hardy Street Bridge between Hattiesburg and Petal.

This allocation stems from a list released earlier in the week from the Mississippi Transportation Commission, which includes 163 projects funded by the $250 million allocated by the Mississippi Legislature through a special session held last August. These funds were designated for emergency road and bridge repair projects throughout the state.

Cities and counties applied for money through the Mississippi Transportation Commission, which prioritized bridge or road deficiencies that impeded safety, economic vitality, or mobility. Forrest County received a little more than $16 million for a total of three projects: Carnes Road, Main Street in Brooklyn and East Hardy Street.
