Hattiesburg, Mississippi – On Saturday, February 14, and Sunday, February 15, the City of Hattiesburg partnered with Forrest General Hospital and Hattiesburg Clinic to distribute a little more than 500 vaccines through a walk-in, no appointment vaccination event at CE Roy Community Center.
“Our goal in this collaboration was to get access to underserved communities,” said Mayor Toby Barker. “On both Saturday and Sunday, lines reached capacity well before the noon hour. Demand for this vaccine is there; we just need to continue working toward access for all communities in our metro area.”
Statistics regarding the vaccines distributed include:
- 382 of the vaccine recipients were residents of Forrest County (75.2%).
- Other recipients came from*:
- Marion County – 24 (4.72%)
- Lamar County – 23 (4.53%)
- Jones County – 15 (2.95%)
- Perry County – 15 (2.95%)
- Covington County – 8 (1.57%)
- Jasper County – 6 (1.18%)
- 398 of the vaccine recipients were African American (78.35%).
- 78 (15.35%) were white
- 12 (2.36%) listed “Other.”
*Other than those listed above, other recipients came from 15 other counties and parishes. There were three individuals from out-of-state (2 from Louisiana, 1 from Alabama).
