August 5 – Daily Update

During today’s briefing with Mayor Toby Barker, he went over several reopening plans for our area schools, universities and colleges.
 
This information is as of TODAY, and could change. If you have specific questions, we encourage you to reach out directly to your school district for more information. Each website (with plans) can be found below.
 
Hattiesburg Public Schools
Delayed start for all grades: August 17.
  • Aug. 17 – Sept. 4: Classes will take place virtually.
  • Sept. 8: Hybrid school plans will begin.
    • K – 11th Grades will alternate in-person instruction days based on last name according to hybrid schedule.
    • 12th Grade is completely virtual.
    • High school students participating in dual enrollment will adhere to specific university guidelines and learning options.

Presbyterian Christian School
All grades will begin August 11.

Sacred Heart Schools
All grades will begin August 6.
  • Pre-K – 6th Grades will attend in-person instruction or can choose to participate through virtual learning options through Aug. 17.
  • 7th – 12th Grades will begin with virtual learning and remain home until Aug. 17.

Forrest County Schools
Delayed start for all grades: August 17.
  • K – 6th Grades will return for in-person instruction.
  • The school district is still considering options for 7th – 12th Grades.

Petal Schools
Delayed start for all grades: August 17.
  • Students with last names beginning with A – L will return on Aug. 17.
  • Students with last names beginning with M – Z will return on Aug. 18.
  • All students will resume in person on August 19.

Lamar County Schools
Will begin August 13 as scheduled, but with a staggered start.
  • Middle and high school students will return for their choice of in-person instruction or virtual learning on Aug. 13.
  • All students at Baxterville and Lumberton will return on Aug. 13; but, then they will not come back until August 17.
  • Elementary students return for their choice of in-person instruction or virtual learning on Aug. 14.
  • All grades at all Lamar County Schools will return and begin the scheduled academic year on Aug. 17.

Classes begin virtually (only) on August 17.
  • In-person instruction will resume on Sept. 8.
