Position: Victim’s Advocate
Department: Police
Rate of Pay: $21.63/hr.
Essential Duties:
• Using victim-centered care, meet with victims of domestic and sexual crimes, assess their needs to provide support, education on victim rights, education on the court and legal process, and make appropriate referrals to assisting agencies.
• Confer with prosecutors before court proceedings to provide case information.
• Maintain contact with victims when needed to assure services are provided, legal proceedings and outcomes are explained and all other needed victim care.
• Maintain/create relationships with partnering and service agencies such as Domestic Abuse Family Shelter, Sexual Assault Crisis Center, Pine Belt Mental Health Care Resources, and Shafer Center.
• Assure victims are treated with a trauma-informed approach and culturally sensitive services to increase victim follow-through of cases and decrease victim reoccurrence.
• Collect and analyze victim data, grant data, and service referrals making recommendations to administration as needed.
• Provide victim rights, domestic violence, orders of protection, and sexual assault training to law enforcement and community organizations as requested.
• Complete grant-required reports and statistics and write required grant documents and plans.

• Working knowledge of available resources and the court system.
• Ability to assess victim needs and provide a victim-centered and trauma-informed approach when dealing with victims.
• Grant writing and reporting experience.
• Data collection and analysis.
Minimum Qualifications: BA/BS in Criminal Justice, Social Services, Counseling, Dynamics, or equivalent education/experience. Two (2) years’ experience in Criminal Justice and Social Services. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.
