Position: Transportation Planner (Part-Time)

Division: Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO)

Rate of Pay: $17.35

Job Summary:
The MPO Transportation Planner is responsible for the management and coordination of various capital efforts undertaken through the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) Division. The incumbent will work under the general guidance of the Director of Transportation & Engineering in his/her capacity as MPO Executive Director. Representative job duties include capital project management for transit projects; transportation master planning and implementation; and the execution of other innovative and resilient transportation programs and objectives. The incumbent will conduct research and analysis of information for adherence to current federal legislation, MDOT, FHWA, and FTA requirements. Work includes ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and conformance to acceptable professional standards.

Essential Job Functions:
• Plans, prepares, and manages the capital procurement in compliance with Federal Transit Administration, state, and city regulations.
• Work with city consultants and with other state or federal agencies in the procurement of services, researching scope, specifications, contract development and administration.
• Develops and updates transportation planning projects and studies, such as the Hub City Transit Master Plan, Safe Roads Hattiesburg, and the Pathways Master Plan.
• Other duties as designated by the Director of Transportation and Engineering.

Qualifications:
• A bachelor’s degree in planning, engineering, architecture, public administration, business administration, finance, or closely related field.
• Preferred background includes experience and understanding of planning of transportation initiatives, including highways, public transit, rail, walking and biking, along with knowledge and experience in issues related to public infrastructure.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state and local laws, City ordinances, and other regulations and requirements relating to municipal planning, zoning and related issues.
• Competence in the use of Microsoft Office products.
• Valid Class D driver license or higher with a satisfactory driving record.
