Rate of Pay: $18.00/hr

Nature of Work: Mechanic is a maintenance employee, who is capable of performing in a workmanlike manner in a reasonable length of time, with a minimum amount of supervision when necessary, any and all repairs, either major or minor, preventative maintenance, on such vehicles or equipment or units thereof, that are assigned to Hub City Transit Mass Transit Fleet.

Examples of Work: (Duties will vary by assignment)

With minimal supervision, perform all repairs and service such as but not limited to air conditioning and heating systems, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and minor body repair; perform safety inspections of vehicles; perform preventative maintenance on vehicles as scheduled; perform road/service calls and operate HCT fleet vehicles as necessary; abide by all established safety training, and quality assurance programs; request quotes and order fleet maintenance parts. There is exposure to chemicals and/or hazardous materials on a daily basis with cleaners and soaps used in a shop. Individuals holding this position may be required to perform “other related duties” as assigned by the Division Manager or Department Director.

Desirable Qualifications: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent plus two (2) year of related experience or any combination of education, training, and/or experience which reflect job qualifications. Applicants must have a Class “A or B” CDL with airbrake endorsement OR able to obtain one within the employee’s 6 month probationary period. Must properly and safely use transit vehicles, forklift, hydraulic lifts, air ratchets, tow trucks, troubleshooting devices and other maintenance and repair machinery. Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Must be able to maintain professional composure, confidentially; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions. Physical demands involve standing, walking, bending/kneeling/lifting/climbing.

Work Schedule: This position may require flexible scheduling. Schedule may vary to meet demands and hours of the operation of bus service, including overtime, split shift, holidays, weekends, nights, and irregular hours.
