Position: Crew Worker

Rate of Pay: $13.00/hr.

Nature of Work:
This is semi-skilled maintenance and repair work. Will maintain and repair streets, sidewalks, drainage ditches. Work with work crews as designated and/or needed. Must be willing to complete tasks as necessary in emergencies and during severe weather.

Examples of Work:

Maintain and repair city streets
• Secure area to ensure safety of the public.
• Haul asphalt, dirt and gravel to appropriate location as needed.
• Lay concrete to repair streets, sidewalks and driveways.
• Fill potholes existing on streets and designated properties.
• Clear streets of debris and garbage when necessary.
• Replace sod at new construction sites or when damage is done during construction or repair.

Maintain drainage ditches and right-of-ways
• Lay pipes for drainage ditches.
• Clear debris from ditches whether by machine or manually.
• Mow, weed eat, and rake leaves around right-of-ways and other city streets to ensure that city right-of-ways are clean and clear of all debris, vegetation, and trash in order to keep the City of Hattiesburg in pristine condition.

Daily maintenance of departmental vehicles
• Perform preventative maintenance on vehicles and equipment by checking tire pressures, oil and fluid levels and pressures before each run.
• Complete weekly schedule maintenance on trucks.
• Clean trucks at the end of each day.
• Take proper care of equipment and materials in order to prolong their lifespan and use.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or G.E.D. required. Must have a valid Mississippi Driver’s License. Heavy lifting, stooping, etc. required. Prior experience working with asphalt and concrete preferred. Will work in extreme weather conditions.
