Position: Crew Worker – Grounds

Rate of Pay: $13.00/hr.

Nature of Work:
This is manual labor work. The incumbent will be exposed to outdoor extreme summer and winter weather conditions. Work involves operating City-owned equipment that includes, but is not limited to, trucks, zero-turn lawn mower, billy goat vacuum, weed eater, rake, shovel, tractor, bobcat, pressure washer, blower, and other specialized vehicles. The incumbent will be expected to comply with all local, state, and federal safety regulations.

Occasional work is required or available for festival or holiday events held in the City of Hattiesburg.

Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned, including after-hours and weekend work.

• Maintains the lawns and grounds for various City-owned property.
• Plants flowers, sod, grass, shrubs, and trees.
• Cuts grass, pulls weeds, waters plants and grass, applies fertilizer and insecticide as directed.
• Cleans and maintains bathrooms at recreational facilities.
• Mulches trees and plants.
• Edges around sidewalks.
• Picks up and removes paper/trash/debris in buildings and on lawns and grounds.
• Collects and removes recyclables and other items; empties trash containers and receptacles.
• Performs preventive and routine maintenance and service on vehicles and equipment to ensure proper working condition.
• Completes vehicle and equipment maintenance reports.
• Participates in ballfield maintenance on occasion.

Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; 2 months previous experience and/or training involving general grounds and building maintenance desired; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Mississippi driver’s license.
