Approximately 80% of auto-burglaries in 2019 have occurred with unlocked vehicles. The Hattiesburg Police Department continues to increase patrols where necessary, but also encourages the public to secure the vehicle each and every time after parking. Through the Park Smart campaign, citizens will see an increase in social media messaging and community relations events to drive home this message.
