COMMUNITY CALENDAR

There is never a shortage of things to do or see in the Hub City. If you are looking for something to do, we encourage you to sift through the many events listed here.

If you would like to add your own event, you can do that by clicking here. This form is for promoting an event via the calendar, only. It is not for reserving community centers or spaces. Please see the following guidelines for posting requirements:

  • Listed events must have a point of contact or link for more information (website, ticketing vendor or Facebook event).
  • All events will be submitted for review before being published, with approval in 24-48 hours. If an event is not approved, the point of contact listed on the event will be contacted.
  • A photo for uploading is helpful, but not required.
  • All events should take place in the City of Hattiesburg.
  • The City of Hattiesburg reserves the right to approve or deny any event listing and to edit the content submitted for final publication.
  • The posting of an event does not provide for the event being  endorsed through the status of being “city-sanctioned” (approval needed by the City Council) or “city-sponsored.” However, both city-sanction and city-sponsored events will also be listed here.

NOTE: Submitting an event for publication on the calendar is not the same as filing for a permit to host an event that requires the use of city property, streets or needs traffic support. For permits, you’ll need to submit a permit application to the Hattiesburg Police Department. The application can be downloaded here: Event & Parade Permits.

Bridging Divides, Building Opportunities: Community Workshop

07 December 2021, 16:00 - 07 December 2021, 20:00
Hattiesburg Train Depot, 308 Newman Street
Hattiesburg, MS 39401 United States
On Tuesday, December 7, Hattiesburg’s Urban Development Department will host a community workshop for residents, business owners and community leaders to discuss the assets and advantages of the East Hardy Street and Hall Avenue corridors, as well as challenges and concerns. The workshop will take place at the Train Depot (308 Newman Street) at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.As a key part of a public engagement phase launched in October (titled “Bridging Divides, Building Opportunities”), the workshop will help provide feedback that will ultimately build a blueprint for the City of Hattiesburg to use for streetscape, design guidelines and zoning regulations in this area.
The workshop will include a presentation and interactive exhibits and is available across two timeframes to help with scheduling. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss how redevelopment can benefit the City’s residents – from the improvement of mobility/connection options and public safety to small business/entrepreneurial growth.
Examples of revitalization efforts from other locations will also be available to help inspire and spur ideas.
Feedback from this workshop will be aggregated along with other opportunities for engagement to make recommendations for development and code changes for these primary corridors, to support and enhance the quality of life for neighborhoods along and within Hall Avenue and East Hardy Street.
After recommendations are made, they will be packaged and presented to Hattiesburg City Council for consideration and adoption.
To learn more about the planning process, residents can visit http://hattiesburgms.com/buildingopportunities or share questions/concerns via email (planning@hattiesburgms.com).
