Mississippi Business Journal launched the first 50 Leading Business Women of Mississippi Awards program in 1997. The purpose of the program is to recognize professional women who have made a significant contribution to society and the workplace. Selections are made from a list of women who are nominated based on: professional accomplishments, personal accomplishments, levels of influence.
The Mississippi Business Journal’s special color magazine on the 50 Leading Business Women has grown significantly each year. Each lady is profiled with a photo and biographical/business information. Advertisers congratulate the women, both individually and collectively, and among other awards, it has won first place as the best Silver Dollar Idea from the Mississippi Press Association.
In February of each year, MBJ hosts a reunion of past recipients and honors Mississippi’s Business Woman of the Year. This is the culmination of the 50 Leading Business Woman program. Finalists and the Business Woman of the Year are selected from the current class.
