- What does WW do? Provides families and individuals with a warm coat or sweater for the winter, because it is a task some families are financially unable to do. With the winter months approaching, the ladies of Junior Auxiliary of Hattiesburg (JA) have been busy all year collecting coats and sweaters for our annual COAT AND SWEATER GIVEAWAY.
- Info on the Sweater and Coat Giveaway– The event this year will be December 5, from 9:30-11:30 at the Danny Hinton Recreational Center, located at 225 Tatum Road, Hattiesburg, MS in Palmer’s Crossing. The event is open to all Hattiesburg area residents. (601) 584-0989. The goal of this event is to help eliminate the possibility of our neighbors suffering during the cold days of winter.
- Info and History of WW and our event-The annual Coat and Sweater Giveaway is part of JA’s Wardrobe Warehouse Project. With Wardrobe Warehouse in its ninth year, and a team of 11 committee members, the ladies of JA work diligently to collect clothing throughout the year. Last year we served around 400 families, providing a little over 500 coats and sweaters at our event. It is our goal to clothe under resourced children and women of all ages in a warm and healthy environment, promoting self- confidence and well- being. We want the entire experience of receiving these donated items to be uplifting and heartening. We go the extra mile to make sure all of our clothing is either new or very gently used, fashionable and completely acceptable.
The committee works closely through school counselors that send referrals to our committee. Wardrobe Warehouse also works with the Salvation Army, Christian Services and numerous other nonprofit organizations. Because we do not have a retail location with business hours, this event allows us an opportunity to reach out to the community on a personal basis and help fill the needs of families during the cold winter months.
The Junior Auxiliary’s annual Charity Ball raises the funds needed to pay for projects like Wardrobe Warehouse. This project has a $150.00 budget. This year, we are spending some of this budget to purchase shopping bags that will allow our clients to experience this as a shopping event rather than a handout. JA could not do the work without the generosity of our supporters in and around Hattiesburg, through donations and our annual fundraiser, Charity Ball.
