After the Christmas holidays, the City of Hattiesburg will provide several opportunities for city residents to recycle excess wrapping paper, cardboard boxes and Christmas trees.
On Wednesday, Dec. 27 and Thursday, Dec. 28, between 8 a.m. and Noon, the recycling division will be at Kamper Park for its annual “Stuff-a-Truck Recycling Event.” This year, city officials added a second day to accommodate the busy holiday schedule.
Accepted recyclables include:
- Paper
- Plastic
- Cardboard
- Food & beverage cans (rinsed)
Kamper Park will also serve as a drop-off location for any resident who wants to recycle live Christmas trees beginning Wednesday, Dec. 27.
Christmas tree recycling will take place until Feb. 28, and the public is encouraged to drop off Christmas trees (live and unflocked trees only) at the following locations for disposal:
- Duncan Lake on James Street
- Cameron Field at Kamper Park
- Fire Station #8 on Lamar Boulevard (near Petro Nissan)
- Highland Cemetery behind the office on W 7th Street
All trees collected will be chipped into mulch and placed at Highland Cemetery for pick-up by the public. Mulch will be available at no cost to citizens of Hattiesburg, and will be available on a first come, first served basis.
“We are excited to offer this one-stop shop for disposing of excess wrapping paper and other recyclables due to the holiday season,” said Mayor Toby Barker. “We encourage all residents to do their part in keeping our city clean and sustainable, and these events will help do that.”
