The City of Hattiesburg will host its annual African American History Month Celebration beginning at 6:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the Train Depot, immediately following the City Council meeting. This year we will host a soul food tasting featuring the area’s favorite soul food dishes. The event is at no cost and is open to the public.
To celebrate Hattiesburg’s best soul food, we will feature vegetables, starches and breads, meat, and desserts!
I am asking each church or organization to bring your group’s 3 best soul food dishes. This means that you may designate 3 members to prepare his or her best soul food dish and bring it to the City’s Celebration February 16th at 6:00 PM.
The event is free and open to the public. It is a wonder time to fellowship as a community while we honor our heritage and culture. Your dish will be placed on the appropriate table for all to get a taste. If you do not cook you may bring iced tea or lemonade. (For your convenience we have included a list of suggested dishes, but please do not feel limited to our list. Anything you choose will add to the tasting selections!)
There will be live entertainment featuring the One Man Band – Charles Carter.
In addition, we have, and several of the best soul food cooks will offer advice and techniques for preparing tasty soul food cuisine
Bring a friend and enjoy a comfortable historic soul food cuisine and atmosphere as we celebrate our history, tradition and culture.
