Why does the City spray by truck?
To cover large areas of our city at a time, ultimately controlling and reducing the number of mosquitoes that can spread viruses.
How long will the City spray for mosquitoes?
As long as temperatures are sustained at 60 degrees.
Will the City spray if it’s raining?
Spraying does not take place on days when it is raining. Rain dilutes the spray and deems it ineffective.
Am I at risk when I’m outside and trucks are spraying?

The primary mission of the mosquito management program is to abate the presence of mosquitos where possible in the City of Hattiesburg.
The department conducts regular mosquito control practices during the active mosquito season which runs from March into December each year.
This program consists of night spraying (fogging) using vehicle-mounted mosquito spray units known as U.L.V. machines.
These activities include adulticide spraying across the city’s five wards and City crews cover intended areas on a bi-weekly basis with spraying applications, weather permitting.
Larvacide treatment is another activity the City performs to treat ditches, drainage channels, and areas of standing water in City right-of-ways to eliminate larvae habitat.
SCHEDULED MOSQUITO SPRAYING HOURS: 3:30 A.M. TO 6 A.M. & 3:30 P.M. TO 6:30 P.M.
FOR 2023, SPRAYING BEGINS APRIL 3 (WEATHER PERMITTED)
EACH WARD IS ASSIGNED A CREW WORKER AND THE SPRAYING TIME WILL TAKE PLACE MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY OF EACH WEEK.
