Position: Engineering Technician
Department: Engineering

Rate of Pay: $21.50/hour

Representative Duties:
• Manage small-scale construction projects, overseeing design, bidding, and construction.
• Interface with public and other city departments to discuss projects, review drawings, and coordinate tasks.
• Collaborate with City staff, contractors, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
• Conduct minor surveys and gather GPS data for city infrastructure.
• Support staff, consultants, and contractors with infrastructure information.
• Coordinate installation of water taps, sewer taps, and utilities with contractors.
• Perform layout work for streets, storm drains, sewers, curbs, sidewalks, and water lines.
• Review preliminary and final drawings for private development and utilities.
• Prepare maps using property records, plats, and contract drawings.
• Develop record plats, topographic maps, sketches, and other drawings as needed.
• Use AutoCAD, ArcGIS, or similar software for computer drafting.
• Maintain maps of vacated streets, alleys, easements, and infrastructure.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
• Ability to professionally interact with supervisors, coworkers, employees, and the public.
• High school diploma, or equivalent.
• Valid Class D driver license or higher, with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation related to infrastructure projects.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, ArcGIS, or similar software for drafting and mapping.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
• Knowledge of engineering practices related to land survey and drafting techniques.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
• Associate degree from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of related experience; OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of related experience.
• Proven experience managing construction projects; including planning, design, construction, and budgeting.
