Position: Equipment Operator

Division: Cemetery
Rate of Pay: $17.00/hr

Nature of Work:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work of equipment operation and maintenance of City cemeteries and other recreation department/city facilities. Daily cemetery operations include, backhoe operation, hauling dirt, mowing, weed eating, grave maintenance and other cemetery functions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Operate variety of trackhoes, backhoes, dump trucks, small tractors, mowers and landscape equipment.
• Maintenance and care of city cemeteries, parks and recreation facilities.
• Perform opening and closing of graves, including loading and transport of dirt, backfill and equipment.
• Perform maintenance of graves and placement of sod.
• Assist in the maintenance of mowers and small equipment.
• Operate equipment in safe, responsible manner. Follow all city and equipment safety guidelines.
• Perform other duties as required.

Knowledge/Skill:
• Any combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability in the operation of equipment such as dump trucks, loaders, tractors, backhoes and other motorized equipment.
• Ability to work with co-workers and the general public.

Desirable Qualifications:
Valid Mississippi Commercial Driver’s License (Minimum of Class B).
Equipment operation skills.
High school diploma or GED
Good communication
