  • Listed events must have a point of contact or link for more information (website, ticketing vendor or Facebook event).
  • All events will be submitted for review before being published, with approval in 24-48 hours. If an event is not approved, the point of contact listed on the event will be contacted.
  • A photo for uploading is helpful, but not required.
  • All events should take place in the City of Hattiesburg.
  • The City of Hattiesburg reserves the right to approve or deny any event listing and to edit the content submitted for final publication.
  • The posting of an event does not provide for the event being  endorsed through the status of being “city-sanctioned” (approval needed by the City Council) or “city-sponsored.” However, both city-sanction and city-sponsored events will also be listed here.

NOTE: Submitting an event for publication on the calendar is not the same as filing for a permit to host an event that requires the use of city property, streets or needs traffic support. Peter and the Starcatcher

Oak Grove High School Theatre is thrilled to present Peter and the Starcatcher for their competition season opener this year. Tony-winning Peter and the Starcatcher upends the century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up (a.k.a. Peter Pan). A wildly theatrical adaptation of Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson’s best-selling novels, the play was conceived for the stage by directors, Roger Rees and Alex Timbers, and written by Rick Elice, with music by Wayne Barker. From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, Peter and the Starcatcher playfully explores the depths of greed and despair… and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.
“This is such a fun show and a wonderful group of students to work with,” said Director Suzanne Allmon, “I knew that this show was the one for this group. Peter and the Starcatcher is written for actors to play multiple roles and to have various locations and it also allows for anyone to play any part. We have 25 people playing about 70 different characters.”
“ In my opinion, this year’s show is the most physical since I have been in the department. The physicality of the show provides a whole other element that makes it so much fun! I love being part of the magic that happens!”, said Senior, Reagan Daniell who plays the precocious young girl, Molly Aster, the heroine in the story. Arrione Magee who is also a Senior, plays the villainous Black Stache said, “ It is so much fun to do and I get challenged with something new every day. I think all the different aspects of the show are really bringing our group together and making it stronger.” With a cast and crew of 45, the students have been working on all the aspects of the production since the beginning of September. The production will take place at the Oak Grove High School Performing Arts Center on November 14, 15, and 21 at 7pm. Ticket prices vary per night. “ November 14th is coffee and dessert night before the performance and tickets are $10 per person for the show and all the coffee and dessert before the performance. November 15 and 21 tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students. You can purchase tickets online at oghsms.booktix.com. Nahla Trotter, Senior, playing the role of Prentiss said,” I’m super excited about our group and glad that I am ending my high school theatrical time with this show.”
