WHAT IS S.P.O.T.?

With public safety as a priority for the City of Hattiesburg and as online transactions grow in popularity, three spaces at city facilities have been identified as “Safe Places for Online Transactions” (S.P.O.T.). These locations can be found at Hattiesburg Fire Department’s Fire Station #1 (810 North Main Street), Fire Station #8 (104 Lamar Boulevard) and at Hattiesburg Police Department (300 Klondyke Street).

At each location, there are two designated parking spots painted and staked with S.P.O.T. signage. Before using as a meetup location to swap items sold through an online transaction, please note the following.

Guidelines for use:

• Transactions involving narcotics, dangerous or deadly weapons or other dangerous materials are not permitted at S.P.O.T. locations.
• While the City of Hattiesburg will not act as a witness or take part in transactions, transactions may be monitored through use of video surveillance.
• The City of Hattiesburg and its employees are not trained nor authorized to validate the legitimacy, integrity or legality of any transaction.

Regardless of transaction marketplace – Craigslist, Facebook, LetGo, Close5, OfferUp, Kijiji, Etsy, Ebay, local classifieds or any other method of selling or buying something – we hope you’ll use these locations as a way to conduct your transaction in a safe space.
